What was the name of your video store?

Videolivery

Where was the store located?

Hong Kong, (Hong Kong)

When did you start working at this store?

1986

In your own words, how did you get started working in video retail? What
led you to choose the video industry, and this store in particular?

I wanted a job to make some money so I started helping out just stocking and restocking video tapes. I could also take videos home for free and that was worth it.

Describe your store - what did it look like? What were its distinguishing
features?

It was on the side of a hill in a very accessible area by car and walking. It was small and popular since there were not many video stores in Hong Kong at that time. The walls were lined with videos and three racks in the middle had videos. Two tvs showed movies during the day and the counter was on the right when you walked in.

What were your customers like? What particularly memorable customers or events do you remember?

Customers were regular people..mostly expatriate community.

What was your boss like? How did he or she divide the work in the store?

My boss was an half asian half british male. He was short with light green eyes. He was great to my friend and I that worked there. Not make teens had jobs at all so for him to hire us (and pay us well) was really a great deal.

What video formats did your store offer (i.e. VHS, Beta, Laserdisc)? Where were
different formats kept in the store?

All three VHS, BETA, Laserdisc.

In addition to mainstream Hollywood movies, what other kinds of videotapes
(children's videos or X-rated tapes, for example) did you rent/sell? Where were these
videos found in your store, and how important were they to the business?

There were all sorts of videos except X rated. I'm not very sure about sales and stuff...I was 13.

What other services/products did you offer besides the rental or sale of
programs? Did this change over time?

Don't remember

Did you ever rent VCRs or other hardware to your customers? If so,
how important were hardware rentals to the business?

No

During the period that you worked at the store, what changes did you see take place?

I worked there for only 6 months so there were not many changes except more videos coming in.

Is this store still open? If not, when did it close?

Don't know.
