The James M. Buchanan Lecture series is named for Professor James M. Buchanan. Dr. Buchanan was winner of the Alfred B. Nobel Prize in Economic Sciences in 1986, which recognized his development of the contractual and constitutional bases for the theory of economic and political decision making. The Lecture series features programming and speakers devoted to public choice discourse and draws its inspiration from Dr. Buchanan's pioneering scholarship.

The James M. Buchanan Lecture Archive contains video from the Buchanan Lectures in the MPEG-4 (Mp4) multimedia standard, which can be viewed from the user's desktop using Quicktime 7 or later media player. Other digital objects in the collection include supporting materials, such as speakers' lecture papers, photographs, invitations to, and programs for the lectures.
